I would have to say that today would be the day which I have truly experienced contemporary art. An art form so modern and undefined; it is unlike anything I have ever witnessed.

At first I was simply amazed and flabbergasted at some of the quality of the works.    I started slowly scouring the gigantic show flour, taking pictures left and right, trying to capture the essence and artistry of craft. Yet even through the first handful of galleries, I was dully confused on the perception of many of the pieces. Yet, knowing that there was no one that I could turn to, I simply paced myself away to different galleries. However, the more I made my way through the exhibition, the more I had noticed the the collection of banter which had enveloped around me. Of greetings between familiar faces and meetings amongst strangers. Exclamations of joy as the witness the beauty of an artwork. Suddenly It had dawned onto me the true pulchritude of the show. It wasn’t just a series of galleries and a collection of perfected creativity. It was interactive and alive, the art around you simply drives those who love them to interact and to converse. To ponder and marvel at it’s wonder. I had long since believed that video games was the only type of interactivity between art and audience. But that is simply not true. Today I have discovered collaboration which is perhaps one of the most important driving force underlining the creation of art itself. Art may be fun to look at, but when talked and discussed about, it evolves. It is seemingly perfect, yet the defies the law of perfection with its ever changing nature.

As much as I had craved taking pictures of the artwork themselves, I began capturing the essence of the exhibition itself. It was an impossible task, and I knew  it. But knowing the stubborn child that I am I tried anyways. I had also began approaching with gallerist with genuine curiosity for each piece, hungry for the the story and enigma behind every work. Not to my surprise, each piece opened my eyes a little more, made me wiser, yet left me only desirous for more.

By the three hour mark, I’ve only went through half the exhibition floor. My flat-footed feet where tired and cramped, I was hungry and tired. But I couldn’t cease my practice. I had even rescheduled my art lessons simply to stay and the marvel in wonder. To think that I’ve finally truly understood the meaning of the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Each piece of art takes you to through an unanticipated journey. Journeys which take you places you’ve never been before. Journeys that lets you feel the summertime breeze of past lifetimes.

I felt like I have only felt the tip of the spear, and I will embrace its shaft as it drives through the recesses of my mind. The art community by far is one of the most accommodating and sophisticated. I felt completely comfortable and welcomed by complete strangers who have embraced my young and vibrant curiosity of art. This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences in my life and it had been virtually free. I promise you, go to an art show, a good one; go up to a curator or gallerist, and simply release these words from your mouth: “Can you tell me about this piece?”. Your life will be changed, forever.

Ahhhh words simply cannot comprehend my feelings once I have been spoiled by luxury of art.
